Ashland and Mystic Garden Party

Our first destination on the West Coast was Ashland, Oregon for a festival called "Mystic Garden Party" One of our favorite artists, Alex Grey, as well as dozens of bands and thousands of hippies were to be there. We got to Ashland a day early so we spent the day walking around town, which was one of the first hippie meccas.

Totem
There is art all over town in the streets, including this Totem Pole.

Wading

Ashland has a huge park called "Lithia Park", which has a creek running through it. Of course I couldn't resist jumping right in.

Pirate
At a thrift store in Ashland, Jim went back to his pirate roots. I'd forgotten how good he looks with his long hair ;)

Crowd
On the 23rd, we arrived at the Mystic Garden Party. The crowd was very eccentric and eclectic. There was a great vibe the whole time and we can't wait to go back next year. Here is Alex Grey on stage.

Swing
At the Mystic Dome, where lots of talks and workshops were held, there was a swing. Again, I couldn't resist.

Lavender
My favorite, Lavender. And a pretty Butterfly! You can see the spa in the background. The spa which is clothing optional after dark!

The Mystic Garden Party was a great experience. I think we both learned more about ourselves and how great people could be. Hippies call people they don't know "Brother" or "Sister" so there was a vibe of togetherness and family and sharing the whole time. The grounds were beautiful, the music was great, and the talks were fascinating. Maybe we'll go to the one in Maui next spring too..!

  1. Hello Angelica and Jim

Your travels are so exciting and I love, so much, to hear (and see) about all of your experiences this way. I am so happy you are having this incredible time with each other and others along the way. It is so wonderful that you have been seeing beautiful places, meeting wonderful people and having special quality time for fun and reflection. The Festival sounds fantastic. What a great event to participate in! It seems that one could learn so much even just by being there with the people, and then with all the music and talks too! I am so so happy you were there...and love, so much, all of your great pictures. The 'outside our backdoor' idea too is fantastic! I love your skirt, Angelica, your hair, Jim :) and most of all your wonderful, radiant smiles, both of you.
Sending much love always! YEL mom

  3. Angelica you look so nice in that purple blue dress, and also great photo in the park, with that light behind you. Actually, those are all rather great shots, whoever took em.

  4. Angelica, It is great to see a fellow vandweller couple enjoying the west coast and sharing it this way :) I was fooled by the picture of Jim with the hair in his hat, looked a bit like me LOL! If you two feel like heading a little bit North, we have a "docking station" in Port Angeles Washington and would love to meet and show you the area! There are a few really great free campgrounds up here as well as some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere! The Olympic Peninsula is really worth exploring! Let me know if you are interested! I am enjoying your blog, inspires me to update mine a bit more often :)
